The international crime book festival in Horsens – KrimimessenAt the crime book festival you can buy crime books, meet and talk to authors who will happily sign their books and enjoy different performances.
The festival is held at the Old State Penitentiary, which stands on a hill in the outskirts of Horsens. The prison is a perfect venue for a crime book festival.
Danish and Nordic crime litterature is more popular than ever all over the world, and The Crime Book Festival that started in 2001 has become hugely popular. More than 5.000 people visited the festival in the old state penitentiary last weekend.
To me, it was my first visit to The Crime Book Festival, and I will certainly be going back next year.
The venue at the old prison was really great and the foggy and cold weather on Saturday cast a blanket of mystery and excitement over the festival.
I managed to talk to a couple of different writers, bought a few books, which I got signed by the authors and I attended a few performances.
It´s quite possible to listen to well known danish and nordic authors like Jussi Adler Olsen, Leif Davidsen and Sara Blædel. This year I decided to go for smaller intimate performances.
Eva Maria Frederiksen, a less known crime fiction author, read a short story about a murder in a small Swedish village.
Also less known author Kim Juul played a crime book concert. Kim Juul mixes his music with his books. The songs from the concert were all related to his books.
The crime book festival is held every spring – the dates for 2015 are not ready yet. It´s normaly held just before the Easter Holiday.
The performances at the book festival are all in Danish, but you can talk to the authors face to face in English and maybe German, French or Spanish.
